Fellow Toasties,

Why did you join Toastmasters? Did you, like me, get the shakes when speaking? Perhaps you had trouble finding the right words to express yourself? Or you froze when put on the spot? Did you think, maybe, if you could just not get nervous, you might be able to share your opinion? To speak up at work? To converse with strangers? And so you joined Toastmasters, and now you are developing communication and leadership skills that allow you to do more than you ever believed!

Isn't it amazing how Toastmasters can change your life? From the power of positive encouragement from your fellow club members, the structure and growth provided by the Toastmasters educational program, to the energy and fun felt at every Toastmasters meeting, you are learning to believe in yourself, and gaining the self confidence to step up and step out.

The servant leaders of the District – the area and division governors, the Lt. Governors of Marketing and of Education & Training, and the District Governor – provide support for you in your journey towards success. They provide answers, encouragement, and education. They challenge you with contests to win, goals to reach for, and opportunities to take advantage of. They are examples to you of the growth in leadership possible within this amazing organization, and, ideally, inspire you to do the same. A dynamic, communicative, positive leadership team is integral to the success of you, your fellow club members, and your club.

That’s why I am asking for your vote on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Spring Conference business meeting, to serve as your District Governor.

I have served in many roles over the past 12 years within District 50, including area governor, division governor, and as Lt. Governor Education & Training. You might have heard a mantra I shared often during that year, “Friends don’t let friends give non-manual speeches.” You may have enjoyed a piece of King Cake I brought to your club to celebrate your success. You may have seen or heard me as a contest master or chief judge; you might have taken a class I led at a TLI or conference. Or you may know another Toastmaster who has enjoyed my love of fun, and passion for Toastmasters.

As your District Governor, I would strive to address your needs. I would focus on service and open, regular communication, so you know the opportunities available. I would involve our experienced members, who have skills and dedication that they love to share. I would advocate strengthening, and expanding, our clubs. Most importantly, I would promote laughter, applause, and fun; because, in the words of our Founder, Dr. Ralph Smedley, “We learn best in moments of enjoyment.”

I look forward to enjoying a Toastmasters meeting, contest, or event with you, and to serving you as your next District Governor!
